At the start of Spring 2025 we had the absolute pleasure of attending the grand opening of our Nordic Room build for Farncombe community garden.
Their application for funding from Surrey County Council was awarded in full and the generous award of £114 000 from the Your Fund Surrey Large Community Projects Fund, in combination with a wonderful legacy received from Broadwater Care Home, allowed them to erect a classroom-sized building for year-round use in the garden, which will enormously expand the scope of what they can do on the site.
Formally opened on March 22nd the gardens new facility, complete with electricity, heating, hot water and the ability to boil that all-important kettle will be named Lambert Lodge after Caroline Lambert a district nurse who worked in the community.
The building, fully insulated to pass building regulations measures 11.8m x 6m and features a 2 metre roof overhang that covers a 24m2 decking. The project took approx 10 weeks to complete and sits on a system of ground screws chosen for their strength and minimal disruption to the landscape.
Helen Farmer, Chair of trustees at Farncombe Community Garden said the following;
“Kris & the Nordic Room team have built a bespoke cabin in our community garden. From design to completion, the service & quality of work has been outstanding. All the team were great to work with & the process was smooth & stress free.
It was lovely to have Kris, Sharron & John at the official opening of the cabin. We appreciate their ongoing support & commitment to the project. Having the cabin will make a real difference to the local community.
Thanks again from all the team & volunteers at Farncombe Community Garden.”
