A garden studio for the whole family

This Surrey family was in desperate need for some extra space for the whole family. Their teenage son needed a place to hang out and do what teenagers do. Their older child had just finished University and his night shift job required him to find a quiet space during the day to snooze. The parents are also using this space as a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of the main house. This is a Nordic Room at its best!

This is what the client has to say:

“I would like to put on record how impressed my wife and I are with the overall build quality of our Nordic Room and the friendly, professional team who carried out the work. Their attention to detail was impressive and we really appreciated the “all in one” quote arrangements, including the recommendation of an electrician. Thanks go to Agneta and Olaf, too, for making the whole design and installation process so efficient and pain-free. As witnessed, the room has already become an integral part of our home, despite not being fully furnished yet!”

Fire rated back and side wall in an angle

In order to maximise the garden space the Nordic Room had to go closer than 1 meter to the back and side boundary fence. We also had to angle the wall to fit the garden shape. We comply with building regulations by fire rating the walls with a cement board; making it into a non-combustable wall. Doing so we comply with regulations for outbuildings. (The regulations say that in order for an outbuilding to be a Permitted Development it can not be closer than 1 meter to any boundary if built in combustable materials) https://www.planningportal.co.uk/info/200130/common_projects/43/outbuildings/2
